Many buses have been found by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporters jumping red lights and speeding through intersections and roundabouts in Ho Chi Minh City and adjacent Binh Duong Province.

It seems to have become a habit of some bus drivers as they do not reduce speed but try to pass through red lights as fast as possible while blowing horns.

A bus stop near the Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City in Thu Duc City, a district-level administration unit under Ho Chi Minh City, is a destination of many buses, such as those of routes Nos. 8, 10, 19, 30, 33, and 53.

At the intersection of Nguyen Du and Ho Xuan Huong Streets in Binh Duong Province, some 100 meters from the dorm of the Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City, a bus of route No. 99 crossed the yellow light on June 6 afternoon.

It was followed by another of route No. 53, which blared its horn, 15 minutes later.

At the location, many other buses have run through the intersection while the light was still red.

The issue was also seen at the crossroad of Vo Truong Toan and Chu Van An Streets in Thu Duc City.

At a roundabout between Thu Duc City and Di An City, Binh Duong Province, two buses even lined up to run the red light on June 9. The light turned red when the vehicles were nearly 10 meters from it.

Nine minutes after the two buses traveled through the red light, the driver of a bus of route No. 19 also committed the violation.

After many days of supervision at the two intersections, Tuoi Tre reporters found that buses of route No. 33 passed through the red lights the most.

A representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Management Center of Public Transport affirmed on Wednesday that the center would immediately impose heavy sanctions on bus drivers committing traffic regulations.

The center has received many local residents’ complaints about bus drivers’ poor driving behaviors.

It has verified the reports and punished violators.

The center has handed over the cases of deliberately running red lights, encroaching on other lanes, and running in reverse to the traffic police division under the Ho Chi Minh City Police for handling.
