Traffic police in Nghe An Province arrested two bus drivers after a video surfaced on social media showing them driving two buses to chase and hinder each other in an attempt to overtake on a section of National Highway 1 in the north-central Vietnamese province.
The two bus drivers, 31-year-old Le Tuan H. and 40-year-old Le Thanh T., both from Nghe An, are currently detained for investigation on charges of disturbing public order, as reported by the public security division of the province’s Dien Chau District to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Saturday.
The incident occurred in Dien Chau District on Tuesday.
According to video footage, a bus belonging to Dong Bac firm was traveling ahead of a bus owned by Thach Thanh firm.
The Thach Thanh bus repeatedly signaled to overtake, but the Dong Bac bus did not yield.
This conflict persisted for nearly one kilometer in heavy traffic, causing frustration among commuters.
At the police station, the bus drivers explained that their actions were spontaneous and driven by competition for passengers.
The local traffic police unit then referred the case to the public security division of Dien Chau District for investigation due to its nature as a disturbance of public order.
Following the altercation, Dong Bac and Thach Thanh firms have suspended the two drivers involved.
