The criminal police departments under the Vietnamese and Chinese Ministries of Public Security held a conference in Thua Thien-Hue Province, central Vietnam on Thursday to launch a campaign to crack down on human trafficking.
Colonel Vu Van Dau and Colonel Chen Shiqu, deputy heads of the criminal police departments of Vietnam and China, respectively, co-chaired the conference.
It was reported at the conference that human trafficking remains complicated with more cunning tricks in the region and the world as a whole.
Along the Vietnam-China border, human trafficking criminals operate by abusing the two countries’ traditional relations as well as their economic openness promotion policies.
Between December 2020 and early 2024, Vietnam detected over 100 cases of human trafficking to China, which involved more than 200 suspects and nearly 200 victims.
The traffickers used fake names, ages, addresses, and photos to make friends with the victims and promised 'easy work, high salary.'
When the victims agreed to meet and go with them, they were sent to China.
In the first half of this year alone, the Vietnamese criminal police filed charges against 20 suspects in nine human trafficking cases.
As human trafficking from Vietnam to China is forecast to remain complex in the coming time, Vietnamese and Chinese criminal police will continue to closely cooperate to combat the crime in each country.
