-- Heavy rain is forecast to continue in many areas of the north on Monday, while the central region will experience hot and sunny weather, and the south will see rain in the late afternoon.

-- State-owned Ho Chi Minh City Greenery Parks Co. Ltd. has proposed establishing a team of tree risk assessment experts and using drones to aid in tree inspection, following an incident last week in which a falling tree branch killed two and injured three people in a downtown park.

-- The Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health has requested the Department of Health of Thanh Hoa Province and the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology enhance diphtheria prevention efforts in the north-central province following the declaration of a diphtheria epidemic in Muong Lat Town.

-- The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has proposed that the Ministry of Transport consider the construction of the Thu Thiem 4 Bridge, featuring an 80m x 15m clearance and six lanes, at a total cost of approximately VND4.8 trillion (US$191.2 million).

-- The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health announced on Sunday afternoon that it had requested the municipal People’s Committee to declare a measles epidemic due to a rapid increase in cases and the recent deaths of three children.

-- The government has introduced new regulations for the real estate market, stipulating that if real estate prices fluctuate by more than 20 percent within three months, the state will intervene to regulate the market.

Lifestyle

-- The Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens in Ho Chi Minh City recently held a longevity celebration for Chuong, its oldest elephant at over 65 years old, to raise awareness about elephant protection on World Elephant Day (August 12).

-- Vietnam are scheduled to host two high-profile football friendly matches against Russia on September 5 and Thailand on September 10, both at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi, according to the Vietnam Football Federation.

-- Quy Nhon City in Binh Dinh Province, south-central Vietnam will host two world beach tennis tournaments for the first time from August 18 to 25, featuring hundreds of athletes from around the globe, Bui Trung Hieu, deputy director of the provincial Department of Culture and Sports, announced on Sunday.

-- FIFA has banned Vietnam’s Khanh Hoa FC from registering new players owing to their failure to pay foreign player Mamadou Guirassy.
