Son Hai Group, a private Vietnamese firm, has completed the construction of 56 new houses, schools, houses for teachers, a communal house, and other facilities at a cost of VND33 billion (US$1.3 million) and handed over them at no charge to a landslide-hit village in Quang Tri Province, north-central Vietnam.
These facilities are valuable to residents in Huong Lap Commune, Huong Hoa District, Quang Tri as they find it hard to make ends meet, not to mention solid houses.
Son Hai Group began construction on the houses in 2022, offering accommodations to 56 families with 271 people.
Ho Van Trung, a local resident whose family was offered a house, is happy as his family now has a new safe house.
In the past, his family was on tenterhooks due to concerns over landslides.
A safe house was Trung’s dream for years.
This is also the happiness of 55 other households as they had new houses in a safe place.
The houses, which are 54 square meters each and made of concrete, were modeled after traditional stilt houses of local residents.

To facilitate residents, Son Hai Group also built wells, roads, and power transmission lines.
The idea of building the village was come up with by Son Hai Group chairman Nguyen Viet Hai.
Hai said he began to think of a safe living place for residents in the north of Huong Hoa District when he witnessed continuous landslides in the district in 2020.
Besides the 56 houses, Son Hai Group constructed an elementary school, a kindergarten, a communal house, and accommodations for teachers.
The firm also prepared 7.59 hectares of terraced fields for locals to cultivate rice.
Son Hai presented each household with a cow, a television set, and rice enough for their meals for three years as well.

The cost for the two schools, cows, and rice is VND7 billion ($279,489), according to Son Hai.
When residents come to the new place, they should be provided with better living conditions so that they can develop their village.
“Residents’ better life is our happiness,” Hai claimed.
Ha Si Dong, vice-chairman of the Quang Tri People’s Committee, said the provincial authorities wanted to evacuate residents out of areas at high risk of landslides and floods.
However, the job needed a large fund and a long time.
Fortunately, the province received the support of Son Hai Group, Dong added.
