Vietnam's conglomerate Vingroup on Friday broke ground on the national exhibition center project in Hanoi’s outlying district of Dong Anh in the presence of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
The facility, covering some 90 hectares of land, is expected to be among the 10 largest exhibition centers in the world.
The exhibition center will replace the existing one in Ba Dinh District, Hanoi.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, chairman of the Hanoi administration Tran Sy Thanh said the city would support Vingroup to execute the project and put it into operation as scheduled.

The city will boost the development of traffic infrastructure projects connecting to the exhibition center to effectively exploit the center when it is in place, thus contributing to the capital city’s socio-economic development.
Vingroup vice-chairman and CEO Nguyen Viet Quang said the exhibition center would be the venue for leading international trade events and exhibitions and kickstart the vibrant “Expo” economy like those in the United Arab Emirates, Germany, and Italy.

It takes only 15 minutes to travel from Noi Bai International Airport to the exhibition center.
The exhibition center will be divided into nine areas with an area of over 10,000 square meters each and a lobby spanning some 7,000 square meters.
The project also features four outside exhibition areas covering a total of 20.6 hectares, the second largest in the world and the largest in Asia.
