Two cold fronts are expected to sweep through northern Vietnam beginning in early November, bringing strong winds and chilly temperatures to the region, according to the national weather center.
A cold air mass from the north was moving toward Vietnam on Thursday and was forecast to impact the northern and north-central regions starting Thursday night.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that this cold spell would bring little change to daytime weather in northern Vietnam, where residents would experience sunny days but cooler nights and early mornings.
From Thursday night onward, the night and early morning temperatures are anticipated to drop to between 18 and 21 degrees Celsius.
Mountainous areas may see mercury drop below 15 degrees Celsius, while low temperatures in the north-central provinces of Thanh Hoa and Nghe An will hover around 20-23 degrees Celsius.
A second cold front is expected to hit the northern region on November 5, bringing the strongest northeast monsoon of the season.
This will bring chilly weather, with lowland temperatures dropping to 16-19 degrees Celsius and mountainous areas seeing temperatures between 12-16 degrees Celsius.
This cold front may also bring prolonged heavy rainfall to central Vietnam.
From November 3, the northern and middle parts of central Vietnam could see moderate to heavy downpours, with excessive rainfall and thunderstorms expected in several areas.
Precipitation may intensify from November 4 and 9.
In the East Vietnam Sea, strong winds hit the northeastern part of this maritime area due to the impact of super typhoon Kong-rey, which was spotted on the northeast coast of the Philippine island of Luzon.
From Thursday night, cold air over the Gulf of Tonkin may intensify northeast winds and cause rough seas, high waves of 1.5-2.5 meters in the maritime area.
All vessels operating in the affected waters should be aware of possible tornadoes, strong winds, and large waves.
