The Ho Chi Minh City Public Transportation Management Center on Saturday evening ordered the suspension of a bus driver who was filmed using a smartphone while driving a bus in the city from Sunday.

A representative of the center said that the center is verifying the incident and pledges to impose sanctions against the driver in question.

The video, recorded and uploaded to social media by a passenger on the bus, started circulating on Saturday.

It showed the driver was using the phone, probably texting, and kept looking at the phone while steering the bus on Ly Thuong Kiet Street in Tan Binh District.

P., who recorded the video, said at 10:35 am on Saturday, the driver of a bus of route No. 94 began using the phone. He even controlled the bus with one hand.

He kept looking at the phone when the bus was passing through high-traffic areas.

It was extremely dangerous for passengers on the bus and other commuters, P. added.
