Police in Ho Chi Minh City are investigating Spanish model and actress Andrea Aybar and Vietnamese singer Chi Dan in connection with suspected drug-related offenses, a source told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Sunday.

During a raid on an apartment in Thu Duc City, a district-level area within Ho Chi Minh City, on Saturday, anti-drug police apprehended Aybar and several others allegedly involved in drug-related activities.

They were taken to the police station for questioning then.

A rapid test on the 29-year-old model, also known by her Vietnamese name as Nguyen Thi An, showed that she was positive for drugs, VnExpress reported.

Having lived in Vietnam since childhood, Aybar is fluent in Spanish, English, and Vietnamese.

After working as a model in Vietnam from 2012 to 2014 and appearing in some films, Aybar has been mostly absent from the entertainment world in recent years.

In a separate case, police in the city’s Tan Binh District have been investigating 35-year-old male singer Chi Dan, whose real name is Nguyen Trung Hieu, and others on similar suspicions.

Chi Dan, known for pop ballad songs, tested positive for drugs along with the others.

The image of Chi Dan holding a drug test kit has gone viral on social media since Saturday.

Police are expanding their investigations into the two cases.

As prescribed by the amended 2015 Penal Code of Vietnam, those committing drug trafficking shall face a sentence of two to 20 years, life imprisonment or even the death penalty, depending on drug volumes.

Those caught transporting 100 grams or more of heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, amphetamine, MDMA, or 300 grams of other solid narcotics face penalties ranging from 20 years in jail to life imprisonment or even the capital punishment.
