-- Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Adylbek Aleshovich Kasymaliev is set to pay an official visit to Vietnam on Thursday and Friday at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

-- VND30 trillion (US$1.2 billion) is needed to extend metro line No. 1 from Ho Chi Minh City to neighboring Dong Nai Province, with a total length of nearly 20km, according to a meeting in Dong Nai on Monday.

-- A library which can accommodate up to 800 people at the same time is under construction in Can Tho City, southern Vietnam, a local official reported on Monday.

-- Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh required at a meeting in Hanoi on Monday regarding preparations for the 2027 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, slated to take place in Phu Quoc, an island city off the coast of Kien Giang Province in 2027, that relevant ministries and Phu Quoc authorities make efforts to prepare for the event.

-- Police in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday arrested nine people involved in a controversial promotional stunt for a fashion line in which they carried a black coffin through the streets near Ben Thanh Market in District 1.

-- A small truck driven by a Vietnamese driver crashed into the median strip of a road in Taiwan and caught fire, burning one person to death and injuring another on Monday. The driver managed to escape the vehicle safely and left the scene immediately afterward, CNA news site reported.

Business

-- Emirates, the world's largest airline, announced that it will begin operating flights from the Middle East, major cities in Europe, and the U.S. to Da Nang City in central Vietnam with a frequency of four flights per week, starting from June 2.

-- Vietnam’s agro-forestry-fishery exports reached $4.4 billion in February, surging 37 percent year on year, bringing the total figure for the first two months of this year to $9.38 billion, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien said on Monday.

-- A car drove into a crowd of people in the western German city of Mannheim on Monday, killing at least one person, injuring several others and overshadowing carnival celebrations in the region where police had been on alert for security attacks, according to Reuters.
