Two years after his previous failure in the Dream Hoop contest, Dao Ba Luong returned with an emotional story and won two new basketball hoops for Nguyen Du High School in Thanh Oai District, Hanoi.

The Dream Hoop contest was organized by the Hanoi Buffaloes basketball club and was themed ‘Tell Good Stories - Win New Baskets.’

Ba Luong’s story was about his journey with basketball since he just enrolled in high school and the physical difficulties he faced when pursuing this sport.

Ba Luong said that he signed up for his high school’s basketball club over his passion for sports, the sense of newness of basketball, and his interest in it.

“Day by day, my passion for the orange balls increased,” Luong said.

“That enthusiasm, that passion has never stopped.

“However, the pair of basketball hoops at my school have been around for a long time, experiencing rain and sunlight, so they started to degrade.

“At first, deterioration started in small details like a few screws, then gradually spread to the backboard, the hoop, and many others.

“With the club’s meager budget, we couldn’t purchase new basketball hoops, but only buy screws, get the basket weld, and repair anything that we could.”

The story of the difficulties that Ba Luong and the basketball-loving students at Nguyen Du High School faced received more than 12,000 interactions on social media.

This is the mark that helped Ba Luong surpass hundreds of other contestants to win new basketball hoops for his school.

Ba Luong also shared that he had participated in the Dream Hoop 2020 organized by the Hanoi Buffaloes and sponsors, but had not been successful.

That year, new basketball hoops went to Huu Nghi 80 High School in Son Tay Town, Hanoi.

Besides the basketball hoop-giving contest, the Hanoi Buffaloes also offered scholarships for students in math and computing majors at Nguyen Du High School.

Defender Nguyen Viet Hoang, who recently won the VBA 2022 runner-up title with the Hanoi Buffaloes, also participated in organizing games and playing friendly matches with the students who are passionate about basketball.
