Khanh Hoa Province in south-central Vietnam will organize the Arena Oceanman Cam Ranh Vietnam 2023, an international open water swimming competition, from September 8 to 10 this year.
The provincial People’s Committee issued a decision on the organization of the swim race on Thursday, following the proposals made by Peak Event JSC and the provincial Department of Culture and Sports.
The swimming competition is set to take place on Bai Dai Beach in Cam Ranh City.
The provincial administration ordered the organizers of the race to work with other agencies to ensure safety and security during the competition.
The organizers of the sports event and other relevant units were asked to closely monitor all related aspects, including messages, images, and maps.
Over 900 domestic and international swimmers have registered to attend the race, which will feature two-, five-, and 10-kilometer categories, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
In early April, the Khanh Hoa Department of Culture and Sports called off the open water swim race scheduled to take place from April 14 to 16 for violations of the Vietnamese sports laws.
Besides, the provincial Department of Public Security imposed a fine of VND25 million (US$1,050) on Peak Event JSC, the organizer of the sports event, as it used a Vietnamese map without Truong Sa (Spratly) and Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelagos to detail the swim race zone.
The organizer had solved the problem, and pledged to comply with Vietnamese laws as well as respect Vietnam’s sovereignty before proposing allowing it to launch the race.
