Police in Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province, southern Vietnam on Thursday detained six football players from Ba Ria - Vung Tau Football Club over allegations of match-fixing in a domestic second-tier league.
The arrests followed the expansion of an investigation into a gambling case in which five of the six arrested footballers faced legal proceedings in February this year.
Of the six, goalkeeper N.S.H., 30, midfielder L.B.G.H., 22, striker P.V.P. and midfielder N.Q.H., both 20, were apprehended for allegedly gambling and organizing gambling.
Midfielder T.K.A., 20, was charged with gambling, and N.K.D., 21, was detained over allegations of organizing gambling.

Investigators found that during a match between Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Dong Nai on November 24 last year, N.S.H., L.B.G.H., P.V.P., N.Q.H., and N.K.D. agreed not to play as well as they could and chose not to attack in order for their team to lose 0-2.
They were each paid VND24 million (US$942) following the match.
In the Ba Ria - Vung Tau versus SHB Da Nang match on December 24, 2023, N.S.H., L.B.G.H., P.V.P., N.Q.H., and T.K.A. played below par.
They had previously bet on SHB Da Nang Club on online gambling websites.
At the end, Ba Ria - Vung Tau lost 1-3 to SHB Da Nang.
