Ho Chi Minh City is the most popular destination for Vietnamese tourists during this year’s summer holiday, according to data from digital travel platform Agoda.

Agoda came up with this ranking after analyzing bookings from its customers made from May through August.

The central coastal city of Da Nang followed Ho Chi Minh City in second place and Hanoi is in third.

Vung Tau City in southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, Da Lat City in Lam Dong Province, Nha Trang City in south-central Khanh Hoa Province, Phu Quoc City off southern Kien Giang Province, Ha Long City in northern Quang Ninh Province, Hoi An City in central Quang Nam Province, and Phan Thiet City in south-central Binh Thuan Province round off the top ten list, respectively.

The Ho Chi Minh City tourism department’s director Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa recently commented that the southern metropolis is not only a market providing visitors to destinations across Vietnam, but has also become an attractive tourism area with a diversity of travel activities for tourists.

Many 4-5 star hotels in the city reported an increase in room occupancy to 85-90 percent during this summer holiday, according to the municipal tourism department.

For overseas travel, Vietnamese tourists tend to choose to explore Thailand, Singapore, France, South Korea, and Indonesia this summer, according to Agoda’s report.

Regarding international arrivals, most foreign visitors to Vietnam in the first six months of this year are South Korean nationals.

Out of 602,000 international arrivals to Vietnam during the January-June period, 107,900 are South Korean tourists, marking a jump of 487.8 percent over the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office.

Omri Morgenshtern, CEO of Agoda, said the desire to return to previous favorite destinations is common this summer.
