The large-scale installation exhibition titled ‘A Tide of Emotions’ has been presented to public view for the first time in Vietnam, featuring artworks by Japanese female artist Chiharu Shiota, a worldwide famous name in conceptual art.

The exhibition, scheduled to run from October 4 to March 30, 2024, consists of two artworks freshly crafted at the Vincom Center for Contemporary Art (VCCA), located at 72A Nguyen Trai Street in Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi.

The primary installation fills the extensive area of VCCA with an intricate web of crimson threads, which is Shiota’s signature material, connected to the wooden boats positioned on the floor.

The second piece comprises finely-crafted fabrics adorning the glass wall at the entrance of the exhibition space, featuring a soft white hue in an understated scale.

Visitors to the exhibition will step into a surreal space that bridges to a world brimming with memories and feelings.

As per the exhibition organizers, Shiota’s artworks represent a harmonious fusion of aesthetic appeal and profound substance, leaving a powerful visual impact and harboring numerous intricate layers of significance.

The exhibition is intertwined with fundamental and universally relatable concepts, offering visitors a fresh perspective on the world.

It is the first exhibition by Chiharu Shiota in Vietnam.

Shiota stands as one of the most dynamic and accomplished contemporary artists globally, with her art showcased in numerous esteemed museums and exhibitions across Asia.

In 2015, she was selected as Japan’s representative artist at the 56th Venice Biennale, a venerable and highly-regarded international art event held biennially in Venice, Italy.

The Japanese artist is celebrated for her breathtaking and large-scale installations, crafted with meticulous precision using hundreds of thousands of threads, often filling entire spaces.

Adult admission to the ‘A Tide of Emotions’ exhibition is priced at VND100,000 (US$4).

Pupils and students can enjoy a discounted rate of VND80,000 ($3.3) by presenting their valid student cards.

For children with a height ranging from one to 1.3 meters, the ticket price is just VND50,000 ($2).
