Vietnamese representative at the Miss Grand International 2023 Le Hoang Phuong won the fourth runner-up title of the pageant during the finale held in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday night.

Peruvian contestant Luciana Fuster was crowned Miss Grand International 2023 after beating 68 other contestants from across the world, while the first, second, and third runner-up titles respectively went to beauties from Myanmar, Colombia, and the U.S..

Vietnamese beauty Phuong also won the best national costume prize, besides those from Japan and Nigeria.

Before being called to the top five, Phuong entered the top ten candidates along with nine others from Myanmar, the Netherlands, Angola, Colombia, Thailand, the U.S., Indonesia, the Dominican Republic, and Peru.

The top 10 contestants donned ao dai, Vietnam's traditional long gown, to share their opinions on putting an end to violence and war and keeping peace.

Phuong said as an architect, she felt heart-broken when she saw houses and families destroyed by war.

Thousands of people have died and children cannot go to school. Millions of people feel hopeless as they do not know where to go when they do not have homes anymore, she added.

She expected her voice to be heard and conflicts to be resolved by conversations instead of guns so that children can see how beautiful peace is.

“Stop war. Return peace to humanity!” she added.

Phuong, 27, from south-central Khanh Hoa Province, was crowned Miss Grand Vietnam 2023 in August this year.

During the finale on Wednesday, the organizer promoted Vietnamese culture as contestants wore ao dai and designs inspired by ao yem, another traditional Vietnamese bodice, and made of Vietnamese brocade.

This is the second time Vietnam has hosted the Miss Grand International, with the first in 2017, when a representative from Peru, Maria Jose Lora, also won the crown.

The pageant was first held in Thailand in 2013, while Myanmar will host the Miss Grand International 2024.
