The An Thuong night market recently opened in Da Nang City, central Vietnam with a goal to promote tourism and attract visitors but it has become counterproductive due to the noise the market generates.
Many hotel and accommodation establishments situated near the night tourist market of An Thuong, which was inaugurated in Ngu Hanh Son District at the end of July, have voiced their concerns as the noise emanating from this popular attraction leads to complaints from tourists and booking cancelations.
Tieu Anh Thu, manager of TMS Hotel Danang Beach, located on Vo Nguyen Giap Street, which is adjacent to the An Thuong night market, has reported a surge in complaints about the disruptive noise from this market since its launch.
In particular, many guests have posted unfavorable reviews on booking platforms, citing the relentless noise as a major hindrance to their sleep, even when keeping their doors tightly shut.
Furthermore, a considerable number of visitors expressed reluctance to explore the surrounding areas due to the excessively loud sound.
The night market’s shops all use loudspeakers, vying for attention with high-volume music.
Additionally, nightly entertainment at the market features performances such as lotto singing and karaoke, which may not align with the preferences of foreign tourists due to their noisy and unrefined nature.

Many other lodging facilities around the An Thuong night market have received similar complaints.
Long Hoang, the proprietor of a rental apartment building in the vicinity, said that his foreign tenants have provided negative reviews regarding the noisy activities late into the night at the An Thuong night market.
Therefore, these businesses appealed to authorities to regulate the music shows and noise levels within the night market and to conduct a satisfaction survey among visitors and businesses in the vicinity to assess the market’s impact.
Tan Van Vuong, deputy director of the Da Nang Department of Tourism, responded to the appeal by conducting an inspection and engaging in discussions with the People’s Committee of Ngu Hanh Son District.
The department plans to temporarily halt the music performances for a review to ensure that the activities at the An Thuong night market are conducted in a professional, civilized, and courteous manner.
Particularly, there will be an emphasis on promoting high-quality, soothing art performances like guitars and violins to enhance the ambiance of the night street, Vuong stated.
