Nova Land Investment Group Corporation (Novaland) is seeking to establish a single ladies market in Can Tho City, southern Vietnam, where delicacies originating from 13 cities and provinces in the Mekong Delta region will be sold.
A representative of Novaland said on Thursday that the firm had written to the municipal People’s Committee and Can Tho City departments and agencies asking for their support in creating the Mekong Single Ladies Market on Con Au Islet in Cai Rang District.
Speaking of the recent public controversy over the operation of the market, Novaland explained that the establishment of the market is aimed at supporting single women who wish to do business, while also contributing to tourism growth and addressing the mass exodus from the delta over the past few years.
The market will sell delicacies from 13 localities in the region, according to Novaland.
“We will support single women with loans, premises, and dormitories while launching a series of trade promotion programs and holding cooking contests once the market is put into service,” Novaland affirmed.
Merchants at the market will be trained in trading and communication with local and international visitors, according to the company.
The office of the Can Tho City People’s Committee had previously sent a dispatch to the municipal departments and agencies on Novaland’s proposal to support the establishment of the Mekong Single Ladies Market.
The municipal chairman assigned the Can Tho City Department of Planning and Investment to cooperate with the municipal Department of Industry and Trade, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and other relevant agencies to work with Novaland on the proposal, and report the result to the municipal administration prior to April 15.
