‘Dao, Pho and Piano’ has been chosen to represent Vietnam in the pre-qualification round of the 97th Academy Awards (Oscars), set to be given away in Los Angeles in March next year.
The Vietnam Cinema Department said that the department had received an invitation from the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to send a Vietnamese movie for the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars.
After calling for the registration on its website, the department received four entries, including Dao, Pho and Piano, Cai Gia Cua Hanh Phuc (The Price of Happiness), Lat Mat 7: Mot Dieu Uoc (Face Off 7: One Wish), and Mai.

The National Council for Film Selection on September 23 picked ‘Dao, Pho and Piano,’ financed by Vietnam's national budget, to compete in the pre-qualification round of the Oscars.
Directed by Phi Tien Son, the movie is inspired by a 60-day-and-night fight to defend Hanoi in late 1946 and early 1947.
The movie premiered at the National Cinema Center in Hanoi during the 2024 Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.
It raked in VND20.8 billion (US$840,460) at the box office after three months of screening.
