Vietnam Airlines and Air France, the national flag carriers of Vietnam and France, will resume their codeshare flights from March 26 after a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, said Nguyen Tien Hoang, head of the Vietnamese airline's branch in France and Europe.
The renewal of the joint venture agreement between the two air carriers will provide passengers with more flight options and optimize the products and services between France, Europe, and Vietnam, Hoang added.
The joint venture agreement was launched in 2017 but was suspended in 2020.
The resumption of the two sides’ cooperation will help strengthen the connectivity between their transshipment centers, specifically Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi and Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City and Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris—one of the largest gateways in the world.
In particular, Air France will operate codeshare flights on the Hanoi - Paris air route of Vietnam Airlines with a frequency of six flights per week with the flight codes VN019 from Hanoi to Paris and VN018 from Paris to Hanoi, using wide-body Airbus A350 aircraft.
Meanwhile, Vietnam Airlines will conduct flights on the Ho Chi Minh City - Paris air route of Air France with the flight codes AF258 from Paris to Ho Chi Minh City and AF253 in the opposite direction.
France is one of the largest and most important markets of Vietnam Airlines in Europe since the Vietnamese air carrier launched its first direct air route to Paris in 2003.
Vietnam Airlines transported some 570,000 passengers between Vietnam and France in 2019.
