Citilink Indonesia, a low-cost Indonesian airline, will operate flights between Jakarta and Da Nang at the end of 2024, a representative of the air carrier said at a business matchmaking event held in the central Vietnamese city on Wednesday.
The representative divulged that the airline would cooperate with travel firms in Da Nang City and the central region of Vietnam to open a direct air route connecting Jakarta with the coastal city in the fourth quarter of the year, with two flights a week.
In the initial phase, the airline will operate charter flights.
The carrier will start launching regular flights after the number of air passengers soars.
Joseph, business director at Citilink for Asia, said that Da Nang City and Vietnam’s central region have become attractive to Indonesian tourists thanks to their landscapes, cuisine, and architectural relic sites.
“We expect to not only carry Indonesian tourists to Da Nang but also bring more Vietnamese travelers to multiple tourist destinations in Indonesia such as the island of Bali through the air route,” Joseph said.

The business matchmaking event, which featured the participation of 35 Indonesian travel firms, was organized by the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Center in collaboration with Hai Van Cat International Travel JSC to diversify tourism source markets.
Indonesia is viewed as a promising market because of its status as the fourth-largest country globally by population, boasting over 280 million people, according to Mai Thi Thanh Hai, deputy head of the center.
Hai said that to diversify tourism source markets, Da Nang has taken Muslim tourism into account, thereby offering various halal products and services to lure Muslim travelers from Indonesia.
Halal refers to food products and services that adhere to Muslim law.
In 2023, Da Nang welcomed over 26,000 Indonesian visitors, representing nearly 25 percent of the total Indonesian tourist arrivals in Vietnam, according to the municipal Department of Tourism.
