Market surveillance forces conducted an unexpected inspection at Ho Chi Minh City’s iconic Ben Thanh Market in District 1 on Thursday, uncovering a large quantity of suspected counterfeit goods, including bags, watches, and sunglasses.

Lots of stalls at the market were found to be offering watches, sunglasses, and bags that appeared to be counterfeit, lacked clear origin, and violated intellectual property rights.

These items were believed to have imitated well-known brand names such as Rolex, Omega, Ray-Ban, Prada, LV, Dior, Gucci, Chanel, and Philippe.

The forces confiscated hundreds of suspected fake watches, bags, and sunglasses for further investigation.

This inspection is part of a broader initiative by the Ho Chi Minh City Market Surveillance Department aimed at cracking down on counterfeit goods, preventing commercial fraud, and protecting intellectual property rights throughout marketplaces and shopping centers, particularly in District 1.

The campaign focuses on businesses and individuals selling counterfeit items, including shoes, clothing, supplements, and jewelry, as well as products of unclear origin.

Before raiding Ben Thanh Market, the surveillance team had also inspected An Dong Market in District 5 and numerous shops and shopping centers across Ho Chi Minh City, uncovering multiple cases of counterfeit fashion and cosmetic products or goods with unverified origins.

A representative from the Ho Chi Minh City Market Surveillance Department told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Friday that recent and upcoming inspections would focus on wholesale markets and major shopping hubs, particularly as the year-end shopping season approaches.
