Vietnam collected three gold medals at the 2013 Bulgaria International Mathematics Competition for elementary and middle school students, which closed earlier this month in the European country, according to the official Vietnam News Agency.

Vietnamese students also earned two silvers, five bronzes, and three consolation prizes at the competition, which took place from June 30 to July 5.

The Southeast Asian nation sent 15 students to the contest attended by 1,080 fifth-to-tenth graders from 31 countries and territories, including the US, Canada, Thailand, Taiwan, China, Russia, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, etc.

The Republic of Korea will host the 2014 competition.

Recently, all four Vietnamese students won bronze medals at the 25th International Biology Olympiad that concluded Sunday in Switzerland, according to the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET). The bronze medalists are 12th graders from the capital city Hanoi and the northern province of Vinh Phuc. Vietnam grabbed one silver medal and three bronzes last year, an improvement from three bronze medals and a certificate of merit in the 2011 competition.

In another contest, Vietnamese candidates secured two gold medals at the 44th International Physics Olympiad that concluded July 15 in Denmark, MoET said the same day.

The two medalists are enrolled in high schools located in the capital and the northern province of Son La.

Team Vietnam was presented with one silver and two bronzes at this event as well.
