Ho Chi Minh City will be one of some localities in Vietnam to start teaching elementary school students digital citizenship in the next school year, which is set to formally begin in early September.
The move follows a pilot program on digital citizenship teaching having been carried out in some cities and provinces over the past year.
Kids, equipped with digital citizenship skills, will be able to stay safe in the digital era.
The official application of the digital education program was announced by the Primary Education Department under the Ministry of Education and Training at a training course on instructions for teaching digital citizenship to elementary students at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Education on Monday.
Thai Van Tai, head of the department, told the training session that it is vital to teach digital citizenship to elementary students.
The fundamentals of digital citizenship will help kids use technology and media in safe and effective ways to avoid threats in cyberspace, he underlined.
Besides, digital citizenship skills will boost creativity in such students.
Therefore, after one year of successfully piloting the digital education program in some localities, the primary education sector decided to allow these provinces and cities, including Ho Chi Minh City, to teach elementary school students digital citizenship this year.
The digital education program must play a pivotal role in enhancing computing skills for students, according to the Primary Education Department.
