Vietnam's all-powerful Politburo on Wednesday issued a disciplinary warning against former Chairman of the law-making National Assembly (NA) Vuong Dinh Hue and former Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The for violations in office.
Former State President Vo Van Thuong was also found to have committed violations but disciplinary measures have not yet been taken against him as he is currently receiving medical treatment.
Upon considering requests from the Party Central Committee's Inspection Commission, the Politburo and the Secretariat concluded that Hue violated Party and state regulations in performing his duties, particularly in the fight against corruption and irregularities, during his tenures as a Politburo member, secretary of the NA’s Party unit, and NA chairman.
He also breached certain prohibitions on the actions of Party members and violated regulations related to setting an example in office.
His actions caused serious consequences, stirred public outrage, and affected the reputation of the Party and state.
Thuong commited the same violations during his tenures as a member of the Party Central Committee and secretary of the Party Committee in Quang Ngai Province, central Vietnam in the 2010-15 tenure, Politburo member, head of the Central Information and Education Commission, permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat, and state president.
The was found to have committed such violations while serving as transport minister.
The NA dismissed Thuong from his posts of state president for the 2021-26 tenure and deputy of the 15th NA in March 2024, and Hue from the legislature chair role for the 2021-26 term and deputy of the 15th NA in May this year.
Thuong was sworn in as state president in March 2023.
Meanwhile, Hue was first elected as NA chairman in late March 2021 and re-elected in July 2021.
They earlier submitted requests to relinquish all of their assigned positions and duties.
The was relieved from the transport minister position in October 2022, upon his request.
He was appointed to the post in October 2017.
