The film “Duong dua” (The racetracks), which was screened at the recent Cannes Film Festival, has been enthusiastically embraced before it hits local screens starting July 26.
Without the high-profile cast and first-time director, producers and cameraman, the film, directed by Khac Huy and produced by seasoned actress Hong Anh’s Blue Productions Co., has been considered a cheerful note on the otherwise gloomy local film scene from early last year.
Loc, played by rock singer Pham Anh Khoa, is a resigned racing athlete who borrows money to purchase a truck to make a living in the city and support his sick father.
Broke up, Loc gambles at the den owned by Hai, played by local drama actor Nhan Phuc Vinh. Loc was then cornered by Hai, who demanded his paying back a whopping sum, along with other mishaps.
The film progresses at a stifling, fast pace and is expected to enthrall viewers from beginning to end with a suspending climax and some thrilling details as well as gorgeous camerawork by New Zealand cameraman Kieran Daniel Fowler, which is considered one of the best in recent local movies.
