Student honors sanitation workers in environment contest

Wednesday, August 14, 2013, 11:54 GMT+7

Nguyen Thanh Nam, a student from Sai Gon University, has recently won the photo contest titled “The environment prism” for his photo featuring sanitation workers.

The competition is part of the program titled “Bayer Environment Ambassador” held by Ho Chi Minh City’s Student Association, the city’s Environmental Protection Agency, and Bayer Vietnam.

“People litter a lot during the day. It makes the night shift of sanitation workers harder. I hope people can experience the job of sanitation workers to understand how tough it is, as well as pay attention to environmental protection,” Nam said of the message contained in his winning picture, titled "Dem Trang” (A white night), which captured a sanitation worker surrounded by garbage.

Do Van Yen, from the HCMC University of Agriculture and Forestry, and Hoang Pham Lam Hong, from the city’s RMIT University, won the first and second runner-up titles, respectively.

The 30 best works in the contest, which attracted nearly 700 entries from students, workers and expats, have also been selected for an exhibition at Saigon University’s Applied Arts Center until August 18.
