Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Petr Fiala is scheduled to pay an official visit to Vietnam from Thursday to Saturday at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, as part of his first 10-day Asian trip.

This is the first visit to Vietnam by a Czech prime minister in 15 years, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Czech PM Fiala will arrive in Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi on Thursday evening, and attend many activities on Friday.

Enterprises will accompany Czech prime minister

The Czech prime minister will have talks with his Vietnamese counterpart and witness the signing of cooperation agreements during his visit to Vietnam.

His visit will feature an entourage of 30 Czech enterprises active in the technology, aircraft, weapon, and engineering fields.

The Czech enterprises will meet with Vietnamese businesses in Hanoi on the same day on the sidelines of the high-ranking visit, according to the Czech Chamber of Commerce.

The chairman of the Czech Chamber of Commerce will hold talks with the leaders of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Besides, the two nations’ enterprises will have a meeting in Quang Ninh Province, northern Vietnam, where the Czech Republic’s famous automaker Skoda Auto will build an auto assembling facility.

The Czech prime minister will sit in at a groundbreaking ceremony of the plant on Saturday.

Before traveling to Hanoi, Czech Prime Minister Fiala visited the Philippines, Indonesia, and Singapore.

His Asian visit is aimed at diversifying partners and trade and investment markets.

Over 70 years of bilateral ties

The Czech prime minister’s visit will demonstrate the two nations’ stronger relations, said Czech Ambassador to Vietnam Hynek Kmonícek.

“The top Czech official’s visit will see various discussions on politics, economy, culture, and society with an effort to deepen bilateral cooperation,” Kmonícek stated.

The Czech Republic and Vietnam have built long-lasting multifaceted partnership and friendship.

Since their diplomatic ties were set up in 1950, the Czech Republic has helped the Southeast Asian nation train thousands of engineers and workers.

The Czech Republic is the first Central and Eastern European country to offer official development assistance to Vietnam.

Nearly 100,000 Vietnamese nationals live in the Czech Republic.

In 2022, bilateral trade totaled some VND20 trillion (US$848 million), up 15 percent from 2021.

Czech investors have got involved in 41 projects in Vietnam with total pledged capital of VND2.2 trillion ($92 million).
