State President Vo Van Thuong’s China visit, slated for Tuesday next week, will be of great significance and contribute to enhancing regional and global peace, said Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Sao Mai.

His trip will be made from October 17 to 20 at the invitation of General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and President of China Xi Jinping.

State President Thuong will lead a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to join the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

Attending the third forum held in Beijing on October 17 and 18, State President Thuong will deliver speeches, and give Vietnam’s voice in efforts to maintain regional and global peace, foster economic cooperation, and promote regional connectivity.

In addition, the state leader will introduce the Southeast Asian nation’s socioeconomic achievements and growth goals to international friends.

This will be State President Thuong’s first trip to China since he took office in March this year, said Ambassador Mai.

Furthermore, this will be the third time Vietnamese leaders have attended the forum hosted by China, as part of a series of high-ranking delegation exchange activities between Vietnam and China to strengthen their ties.

The top Vietnamese official’s visit to China is aimed at marking the 15th anniversary of the Vietnam - China comprehensive strategic partnership.

The upcoming trip will demonstrate that Vietnam attaches much importance to bilateral ties with China, and appreciates China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) for regional and global peace, stability and prosperity.

The BRI is a plan for global infrastructure and energy networks that China launched a decade ago to connect Asia with Africa and Europe through land and maritime routes, reported Reuters.

Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Xiong Bo told Vietnamese reporters on Friday that the two nations’ ties have reached the highest-ever level, while political trust between the two parties has strongly been cemented.

“China always throws its support behind Vietnam’s contributions to regional and global issues,” he underlined.

The Chinese ambassador also affirmed that China is willing to accompany Vietnam during the modernization journey.
