Vietnam’s Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu and Russia's First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Vladimir Titov co-chaired the 13th Vietnam-Russia strategic dialogue on diplomacy, defense, and security in Hanoi on Monday.

The senior Russian diplomat visited Vietnam from Sunday to Monday to attend the event at the invitation of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the dialogue, both sides reviewed the outcomes of their bilateral cooperation in all fields, especially in politics-foreign affairs, defense-security, trade-investment, as well as their cooperation at multilateral forums.

Both sides also discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern.

They spoke highly of the effectiveness of the strategic dialogue and highlighted some positive results of their bilateral cooperation, particularly the exchange of all-level delegations in 2023 that paved the way for further collaboration, promptly removing obstacles, and strengthening the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership.

The two nations are committed to sustaining and enhancing their bilateral cooperation substantially and effectively in the coming years.

They aim to fulfill their cooperation agreements and projects, particularly as they approach the 30th anniversary of the Treaty on Principles of Friendly Relations (June 1994-2024) and the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Russia diplomatic ties (January 1950-2025).

First Deputy Minister Titov said that Moscow attaches importance to, and wants to develop, its substantive relations with Vietnam, considering Hanoi a trustworthy partner.

The Russian diplomat suggested that the two foreign ministries continue to fulfill their coordinating roles in carrying out bilateral agreements, ramp up efforts to remove obstacles, and expand their cooperation in potential fields.

Given the rapidly evolving developments in the region and globally, the two senior diplomats agreed to conduct an annual strategic dialogue.

This is meant to facilitate timely enhancement of bilateral cooperation, exchange of information, and strengthening collaboration at multilateral forums.

Also, they concurred with each other to maintain close cooperation at the UN, in the ASEAN-Russia cooperation framework, and at other international forums for regional and international peace and stability.

At the event, the two ministries also signed an agreement for cooperation in the near future.
