US President Joe Biden congratulates Vietnamese State President To Lam on election as Party chief

US President Joe Biden congratulates Vietnamese State President To Lam on election as Party chief

U.S. President Joe Biden sent his congratulations to State President To Lam on his election as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, according to the former’s statement released by the White House on Wednesday.

“I congratulate President To Lam on his selection as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s Central Committee," President Biden said in the statement.

“Nearly one year ago, Vietnam and the United States launched our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, marking a new era of strong cooperation between our nations. 

“Vice President Harris and I look forward to working with General Secretary Lam to continue advancing this historic progress, which supports a strong, independent, prosperous, and resilient Vietnam."

The 13th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam elected State President Lam as General Secretary for the 2021-26 term at a meeting on August 3.
