Twelve ambassadors to Pakistan, including the ambassador from Vietnam, were safe after their convoy was attacked with an improvised explosive device on September 22, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs' spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said on Thursday.
The convoy, which included police escort vehicles and vehicles carrying ambassadors from 12 countries, was en route to the Swat Tourism Development Forum when it was attacked in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, Pakistan.
The explosion killed one police officer and injured four others. All vehicles carrying the ambassadors were unharmed.
Following the incident, police escorted the ambassadors back to Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, safely. Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has condemned the attack, NBC News reported.
Hang said that Vietnam strongly condemns the attack and extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims.
She stressed that Vietnam expects the Pakistani authorities to ensure the safety and security of diplomatic missions and foreign communities, including the Vietnamese nationals living, studying, and working in the country.
The administration in Khybe Pakhtunkhwa Province said on Wednesday that they had established a committee to investigate the attack targeting the convoy of foreign diplomats, according to Arab News.
Militant attacks in Pakistan have increased over the past few months, including incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which borders Afghanistan.
