President of the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez said Cuba hoped to receive Vietnam’s support in developing renewable energy during talks with chairman of Vietnam's lawmaking National Assembly Tran Thanh Man in Hanoi on Saturday.

The top Cuban legislator is paying a visit to Vietnam through Sunday.

During the talks, the Vietnamese NA chairman said regular visits by the two countries’ senior officials helped strengthen and develop their special solidarity.

Man extended his condolences and sympathy to the Party, state, and people of Cuba following the devastation caused by typhoon Oscar which hit the country last month, as well as its difficulties triggered by the ongoing energy and food crises.

He also congratulated Cuba as the the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution, urging the U.S. to end its economic, commercial and financial embargo against Cuba.

The Vietnamese NA wanted to enhance the cooperation with the Cuban legislature in an extensive manner, Man noted.

He suggested the two sides coordinate at multilateral international forums, such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union and other multilateral parliamentary organizations of which the two sides are members, and support each other's stances on regional and international issues of shared concern.

For his part, president of the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez expressed his joy to return to visit Vietnam and meet Vietnamese NA chairman Man again.

He thanked the Party, state and people of Vietnam for presenting 10,000 metric tons of rice to Cuba, emphasizing this is the timely sharing in the context that Cuba is facing a food and energy crisis.

According to Hernandez, the two countries’ special relationship has seen many positive developments after the state visit to Cuba by Vietnamese Party General Secretary and State President To Lam in September.

During the visit, the two sides issued a joint statement with the determination to continue developing their bilateral ties to a new height which is more comprehensive, practical, effective and sustainable.

Hernandez suggested that Vietnam share its law-making experiences, especially in the context that Cuba is building its business law.

He said the two countries should promote exchanges between localities and friendly parliamentarian groups, coordinate to prepare for the second session of the Vietnam - Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, and promote bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, finance, investment, energy, science and technology.

They also agreed to hold the second session of the Vietnam - Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee in Vietnam next year.
