Vietnamese police have arrested two men for snatching a handbag from a Ukrainian national in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa a week ago.

Huynh Van Dung, 38, and Nguyen Khanh Nguyen, 18, both of Nha Trang, which is the capital city of Khanh Hoa, were apprehended last Saturday, two days after they committed the offense, the provincial police said.

The two have been charged with “property robbery by snatching.”

Police also detained Ha Anh Tu, 26, hailing from Nha Trang, on charges of “consuming property acquired through the commission of crime by other persons.”

According to the case file, Dung and Nguyen searched for ‘prey’ while traveling on a motorbike along streets in Nha Trang.

On reaching Tran Phu Street, they saw Albina Chin, of Ukraine nationality, walking along the roadside near the Phu Dong Park, holding a handbag in her hand.

The two men then got close to the foreign woman, snatching the bag from her and speeding up to escape.

The handbag contained VND2 million (US$89) in cash and an iPhone 5S.

After being informed of the street robbery, police launched an investigation and arrested Tu first and then Dung and Nguyen on November 14.

The two street robbers told police that they had handed the phone to Tu, their friend, who later sold it for VND1 million ($44.5), which was shared among the three.
