The traffic inspector involved in the assault of a female employee at a Hanoi airport earlier this week has been temporarily suspension from work.

Dao Vinh Thuan, 37, an official of the Hanoi traffic inspectorate, has been temporarily suspended from work following his assault of an aviation staff member at the Noi Bai International Airport on Tuesday afternoon, Tran Dang Hai, chief inspector of the municipal Department of Transport, confirmed on Saturday. The suspension will take effect during the investigation of the incident, Hai added.

The municipal People’s Committee had previously ordered Thuan to make a public apology to the female employee, Nguyen Le Quynh Anh, a Vietnam Airlines airport service deputy.

Thuan and Tran Duong Tung, who were scheduled to take the Vietnam Airlines flight VN7265 from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, were denied boarding due to the late arrival at their boarding gate.

Anh and her colleague, Ta Duc Giang, approached the two men, attempting to help them reschedule another flight, but were met with extreme anger and aggression.

The situation escalated quickly when Tung hit Anh several times on her head with his wallet while Thuan restrained her by grabbing her shirt.

The incident was caught by CCTV, with Tung and Thuan later slapped with a flight ban of 12 and six months, respectively.

The prime minister also ordered that results of the investigation be submitted to his office by the end of October.

The Hanoi administration has also ordered the municipal Department of Police to continue probing the case and have imposed appropriate punishments on the two passengers.
