Police in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday put two men in custody for their involvement in a ‘revenge attack’ in March, where a man was shot for parting company with his 70-year-old girlfriend.
Officers also initiated legal proceedings against the two men, 25-year-old Le Dang Quang and 22-year-old Ho Thanh Nhan, on charges of attempted murder, the same day.
According to the case file, the shooting victim, 30-year-old N.T.P., was entering his house in Tan Phu District at around 9:45 pm on March 14, when a man approached him and fired several shots at him before fleeing the scene.
Residents took P. to the hospital, where it was discovered that three bullets had wounded his shoulder, chest and back.
The gunman was later identified as Quang, who was nabbed on March 19 when he was hiding in a house in Binh Thanh District.

Quang confessed to police officers that he had bought the gun used to shoot P. in the northern city of Hai Phong.
His confession also led to the arrest of Nhan, who Quang said had paid him VND300 million (US$13,200) to shoot P. to take vengeance on him.
Police later discovered that Nhan’s 70-year-old mother had had a romantic relationship with P.
After P. broke up with her in March, the elderly woman confided this situation to her son, who later hired Quang to ‘teach P. a lesson,’ according to police.
