Politics

— The Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications on Monday launched the national data portal at data.gov.vn during a ceremony in Hanoi to provide data of state agencies in service of political and socio-economic activities, contributing to the process of e-government building in Vietnam, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

Society

— Vietnam reported no new case of COVID-19 on Tuesday morning, marking 60 hours without any local infection in the country, according to the Ministry of Health. The national tally remained at 1,044 with 707 recoveries and 34 deaths.

— Local authorities in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday said they had recently seized thousands of cosmetic products, perfumes, foods, and electronic components allegedly being illegally imported from China with the total estimated value of more than VND2.8 billion (US$121,000) after inspecting a warehouse in District 8.

— Ho Chi Minh City has so far punished more than 3,769 cases for not wearing face masks in public with fines reaching VND765 million ($33,100) in total, in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19, the Department of Industry and Trade reported on Monday.

— Authorities in the central city of Da Nang on Monday slapped a local restaurant with a VND40 million ($1,730) fine after a group of 24 customers were caught using drugs in the place’s karaoke room despite the city’s ban on mass gatherings to prevent COVID-19. The customers were also fined over VND200 million ($8,650).

— The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport on Monday required local bus stations and passenger transportation companies to strengthen COVID-19 prevention measures amid the travel demand of people during the coming National Day on Wednesday.

Business

— Ho Chi Minh City’s foreign trade totaled more than $60.48 billion in the first eight months of this year, down 0.03 percent against the same period of 2019, the Vietnam News Agency reported on Monday.
