As many as 22 elementary school students in the north-central Vietnamese province of Quang Tri were hospitalized on Monday after a swarm of bees attacked them.

The incident occurred at Cam Lo Elementary School in Cam Lo District, Quang Tri at around 4:00 pm, when the children were in recess.

Upon discovering a beehive in the school’s backyard, a group of students tried to disturb it, which unleashed the insects.

Twenty-two kids suffered bee stings and were rushed to a local hospital for treatment.

Tran Tuan Anh, vice-chairman of Cam Lo District People’s Committee, said an emergency team consisting of 20 nurses and four doctors were mobilized to promptly examine and treat the children.

All of the junior patients are making a good recovery.

The bees that stung them have been identified as honeybees, district leaders said.
