Vietnam records 21,728 coronavirus cases, 16,227 recovered patients

The Ministry of Health logged 21,728 COVID-19 cases across Vietnam on Tuesday, together with 16,227 recoveries and 224 deaths.

The latest infections, including 32 imported and 21,696 domestic transmissions, were documented in 60 provinces and cities, the ministry said.

Tra Vinh Province reported 7,063 of the newest local cases, Hanoi 2,499, Tay Ninh 916, Khanh Hoa Province 797, Ho Chi Minh City 664, Binh Dinh Province 608, Hai Phong City 602, Binh Phuoc Province 593, Bac Ninh Province 342, Thua Thien-Hue Province 285, Da Nang 253, Quang Ninh Province 227, Lam Dong Province 202, Can Tho City 196, Quang Nam Province 194, Binh Thuan Province 119, Binh Duong Province 65, Dong Nai Province 51, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 42, and Quang Binh Province 40.

Vietnam had detected 15,916 domestically-acquired infections on Monday.

The country has found 1,794,866 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave erupted on April 27, 2021. A combined 1,410,567 of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Ho Chi Minh City is on top of the caseload with 505,523 patients, followed by Binh Duong Province with 291,061, Dong Nai Province with 98,183, Tay Ninh Province with 78,837, Hanoi with 54,432, Dong Thap Province with 44,996, Can Tho City with 41,772, Long An Province with 40,553, Khanh Hoa Province with 36,153, Tien Giang Province with 34,173, An Giang Province with 33,361, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province with 26,611, Binh Thuan Province with 26,378, and Da Nang with 11,991.

Vietnam confirmed merely 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry recorded 16,227 recovered patients on Tuesday, lifting the total to 1,413,384.

The toll has jumped to 33,245 fatalities after the ministry documented 224 deaths on the same day, including 26 in Ho Chi Minh City, 26 in Dong Nai Province, 18 in An Giang Province, 15 in Dong Thap Province, 15 in Vinh Long Province, 11 in Can Tho City, 10 in Hanoi, and the remainder in 18 other provinces and cities.  

Vietnam has logged 1,800,704 patients since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

Health workers have administered more than 154.3 million vaccine doses, including 405,584 shots on Monday, since vaccination was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

Above 77.8 million of the country’s 98 million people have received at least one dose while over 69.6 million have been jabbed twice.

The number of third doses – including additional primary shots for immunocompromised people, boosters, and third jabs of Cuba’s Abdala vaccine – has spiked to 6,879,317.

Many provinces and cities are immunizing children aged 12-17 against COVID-19, using Pfizer-BioNTech shots.
