The People’s Committee of Da Lat City, a tourism hot spot in Lam Dong Province of Vietnam’s Central Highlands region, has forced violators to pull down the tourism facilities that were built on the area of Tuyen Lam Lake without permission.

Four of the eight violators have carried out the dismantling work and prepared to relocate the illegally-constructed structures while the other four have taken no action, the Da Lat People’s Committee said on Friday.

The illegally-built works encroached upon a total area of more than 800 square meters along Hoa Phuong Tim Street on the land surrounding Tuyen Lam Lake, which is located about five kilometers to the south of the center of Da Lat.

Covering an area of 2,900 hectares, including a water surface of 350 hectares, Tuyen Lam Lake and its surroundings were recognized as a national tourism zone in 2017 and are considered as one of the must-visit places in Da Lat.

Tourism services have been put into operation at the lake long before that, in 2004.

The management board of the lake has rented out land plots on Hoa Phuong Tim Street to private enterprises for the construction and operation of tourism facilities since 2006 without approval from the Da Lat People’s Committee.

The city’s deputy chairman, Vo Ngoc Trinh, said the administration will exert their authority to put an end to the encroachment situation at the lake within this month.

A review of tourism activities at Tuyen Lam Lake in March showed that Lam Dong authorities green-lighted 37 projects, to be implemented at a cost of nearly VND10.7 trillion (US$456.2 million),but only five have been completed at the national tourism site.

Construction of eight other projects have been partially finished while the other 24 are nowhere near completion.

Meanwhile, the management board of the lake has overlooked many unlawfully-built works that affect the landscape of the tourist area.
