As many as 288 business restaurants in Hai Chau District, Da Nang City in central Vietnam have agreed to provide free toilets for travelers following the local authorities’ encouragement.
Their act is in response to the ‘Comfort as Home’ program, the People’s Committee of Hai Chau District informed on Friday.
A month after members of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in Hai Chau District called on over 500 restaurants and enterprises on 65 streets in the district to participate in the program, they have got the nod from 288 units, said Le Tu Gia Thanh, chairman of the People’s Committee of Hai Chau District.
The move is aimed at serving tourists in Da Nang, especially during the upcoming peak summer travel season.

The ‘Comfort as Home’ program was initiated by the People’s Committee of Hai Chau District and the district’s business association in 2015 and has exerted a positive effect.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2018 recognized the logo of the program for nationwide application.
Hai Chau District has resumed the program after a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The locations of restrooms in the program were surveyed carefully to facilitate tourists and not to cause a negative impact on the environment, Thanh said.
The district also has a plan to develop public toilets on empty public land lots, repair existing public toilets in the city as well as replace broken equipment at these toilets.
It has also erected signboard to toilets at areas crowded with tourists. These signboards will also feature ads at no charge, according to the Hai Chau District People’s Committee.
The district has also launched the ‘Comfort as Home’ app to help tourists easily find the locations of free toilets and provide them with the information of restaurants and hotels offering these toilets.

The district will call on administrative agencies and public service providers to take part in the program in the coming time, besides organizations, households, and enterprises.
Most of members of the Hai Chau District Business Association voluntarily participate in the program without asking for any benefit, which demonstrates their corporate culture and responsibility to the community, said Huynh Thanh Quang, vice chairman of the association.
The association is calling on some enterprises to sponsor publications, cleaning equipment, and toilet paper for business establishments getting involved in the ‘Comfort as Home’ program, Quang added.
