-- Many entrances leading to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi were crammed with vehicles on Tuesday as travelers came back to the cities one day before the end of the ongoing five-day public holiday starting last Saturday. 

-- Police in southern Hau Giang Province arrested on Tuesday a 54-year-old gardener for staging a theft to appropriate US$60,000 from his Vietnamese-American employer.

-- Two pedestrians were killed instantly on National Highway 10 in northern Hai Phong City on Tuesday when a car’s front tire burst, causing the driver to lose control of the steering wheel.

-- Some 105 traffic accidents occurred nationwide within the first four days of the ongoing five-day break, resulting in the death of 50 people and injuring 64 others, the National Traffic Safety Committee announced on Tuesday.

-- Formidable Sport Center I made history on Tuesday to become the first team ever from Vietnam to capture their unprecedented title at the 2023 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship following their epic comeback 3-2 win against Thailand’s Diamond Food Fine Chef in the highly-anticipated final showdown in Vinh Phuc Province.

-- Chess players Pham Thanh Phuong Thao and Ton Nu Hong An won the first gold medal for Vietnam at the 2023 Southeast Asian Games after topping the Ouk Chaktrang women’s doubles event on Tuesday.

-- Cristiano Ronaldo became the world’s highest-paid athlete after his move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr nearly doubled his annual playing salary while Paris St Germain duo Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe round off the top three, according to Forbes.

World news

-- “Major U.S. stock indexes fell more than 1% each on Tuesday as regional bank shares tumbled on renewed fears over the financial system and as investors tried to gauge how much longer the Federal Reserve may need to hike interest rates,” Reuters reported.
