Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has approved a plan allowing public employees to take a seven-day Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday starting from February 8 to 14, 2024, according to an announcement recently released by the government office.
In this plan proposed by the Ministry of Labor, Invalid and Social Affairs, officials, public servants, and employees working at administrative, non-business agencies, political and socio-political organizations are allowed to leave work two days before Tet starts on February 10.
The Lunar New Year holiday, or Tet, is the biggest holiday in Vietnam and an important occasion for family reunion.
Besides, the government leader gave the green light to a four-day break lasting from August 31, 2024 to September 3, 2024 in celebration of Vietnam’s National Day.
PM Chinh asked Minister of Labor, Invalid and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung to inform administrative, non-business agencies, political and socio-political organizations of the Tet and National Day holidays.
According to the ministry, businesses have the right to decide on their Tet breaks based on the plan of the ministry, but they have to announce the breaks at least 30 days in advance so that employees can have time for booking train, flight tickets to return home or arranging their work.
