-- Vietnam’s National Assembly (NA) initiated a grilling session on Monday monring as part of the 15th NA’s sixth sitting.

-- Police in Thu Duc City under Ho Chi Minh City said on Sunday that they were verifying a video circulating on social media which depicts a young man performing motorcycle-riding stunts on the roof of the Thu Thiem Tunnel, with a girl seated behind him and her back turned against him. 

-- Traffic police said on Saturday that they had fined a 49-year-old driver VND5 million (US$203) and revoked his driver’s license for three months after he was caught driving a passenger bus in the wrong direction on National Highway 2 in Tuyen Quang Province, northern Vietnam.

Business

-- Several travel firms launched their 2024 Lunar New Year tour offers at the start of this quarter without waiting for the official announcement of the holiday schedule by the national government.

-- Vietnam’s total imports and exports amounted to $557.95 billion in January-October, down 9.6 percent, or $59.49 billion, compared to the same period in 2022, according to the latest data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

Lifestyle

-- Lai Chau Province in northern Vietnam recently showcased excerpts from the Ngo Festival of the Cong ethnic community in Muong Te District during the inaugural cultural festival celebrating small ethnic groups with a population of less than 10,000. The Ngo Festival allowed the Cong people to express their gratitude to their ancestors for the year’s blessings.

-- A survey by Viettel indicates that out of 2,000 exceptional university students accepted into the military-run telecom group’s program for training, only 100 students are qualified to be employed, stated Duong Xuan Phuong, deputy director of Viettel Academy, during a seminar held on Sunday afternoon.

-- The APAX Leaders English-language center system, embroiled in tuition scam scandals, has recently made a new pledge to refund tuition fees to parents, extending the payment period by nearly two years compared to the previous commitment.
