Following the success of its inaugural exhibition in October 2022 at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum in Hanoi, the Embassy of Spain in Vietnam has launched the second edition of ‘The World Needs Superheroines’ comic art event in Da Nang.
The opening ceremony for the event was held on Thursday at the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum, coinciding with the celebrations of Spain’s National Day on October 12 and Vietnam’s Women’s Day on October 20.
The exhibition is organized by the Embassy of Spain in partnership with the Spanish Association of Comic Authors, the Herstóricas Association, Comicola Vietnam, and the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum.

‘The World Needs Superheroines’ aims to highlight and recognize women’s contributions to society while fostering artistic dialogue between emerging voices in the comic sector from Vietnam and Spain.
It features 64 works from 62 female artists and author groups from both countries, showcasing a diverse array of styles and subjects, including feminism, love, friendship, and social issues.
These pieces vividly illustrate the limitless creativity of women though comic art — an increasingly popular medium in Vietnam.

According to Nguyen Thi Hoi An, deputy director of the Da Nang Department of Culture and Sports, the exhibition offers residents a chance to experience the culture, life, and people of Spain, especially women, who are depicted as superheroines through unique and creative artworks by female artists.
She added that the exhibition also serves as a cultural bridge, promoting strong cooperation, cultural exchange, and mutual understanding between the people of Da Nang and Spain.
Gia Phong, 24, was excited at the opportunity to explore Spanish culture and female empowerment.

“I am drawn to the themes of gender equality and the contemporary comic works, which provide insights into the aspirations and lives of women in both Vietnam and Spain,” he said.
Another visitor, Jose, a Spanish national who has lived in Da Nang for two years, remarked that the exhibition helped him gain a better understanding of the cultures and arts of both countries, particularly the crucial role of women in family life.
The exhibition is open to the public free of charge from October 18 to November 6 at the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum, located at 78 Le Duan Street, Hai Chau District, Da Nang.
“Today’s exhibition will not be the last. It will kickstart many cultural and artistic connection activities in the future,” said Carmen Cano de Lasala, Spanish Ambassador to Vietnam.
