The People’s Committee of District 1 in Ho Chi Minh City has written to the municipal administration proposing opening parking spaces for motorcycles on parts of Mac Thi Buoi, Ngo Duc Ke, and Hai Trieu Streets to make it convenient for visitors to enter Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street.

A section of Mac Thi Buoi Street stretching from the street to Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street should be made into a motorcycle parking lot.

Two parking areas should be opened on Ngo Duc Ke Street, meaning that they will lie on both sides of Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street.

Another will be placed on Hai Trieu Street, starting from Nguyen Hue Street to Ho Tung Mau Street, according to the district administration’s proposal.

The district also hinted at opening these parking spaces on weekends and when a large event takes place, from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm.

These motorcycle parking lots should be put into operation on a trial basis from January 1 next year until the establishment of a District 1 center for park and pedestrian street management.

In addition, the District 1 People’s Committee proposed building no parking lots on Nguyen Thiep, Huynh Thuc Khang, and Ton That Thiep Streets, which meet Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street, to ensure firefighting and rescue operations.

Moreover, the district asked the municipal administration for approval for a pilot plan allowing hotels, restaurants, and eateries along Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street to sell beverages and fast food on sidewalks, starting from mid-December. 

The surrounding area of Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street is facing a dearth of parking lots, leading to rampant illegal parking on the sidewalks and roadbeds of the street.
