A speedboat captain and some foreign tourists saved a woman who jumped off the Saigon Bridge in Ho Chi Minh City in an attempt to commit suicide on Tuesday afternoon.
Local police later reunited the woman with her family.
As captain Nguyen Hoa Hoa, 50, piloted a speedboat for Saigon River Tour Co. Ltd. along the Saigon River, transporting five foreign tourists from Cu Chi District to Bach Dang Wharf in District 1, an assistant on board noticed a woman jumping from the Saigon Bridge into the river and promptly alerted Hoa.
Hoa navigated the speedboat back to the woman adrift in the swift current.

He approached her and, with the assistance of his passengers, successfully pulled her onto the speedboat.
After safely bringing the woman to shore, Hoa provided reassurance and handed her over to police officers in An Khanh Ward, Thu Duc City, who then investigated and discovered that the woman had taken a motorbike taxi to the Saigon Bridge in Binh Thanh District.
There, she left a suitcase, a backpack, and a pair of shoes before jumping off the bridge.

The suitcase contained a note that reads, “Please help me, burn and throw the ashes into the sea.”
The An Khanh Ward police subsequently transferred custody of the woman to their colleagues in Binh Thanh District for further proceedings.
