The Ho Chi Minh City administration has given the go-ahead for the resumption of operations at the inland waterway port at the second quay of the Bach Dang Wharf in District 1.
Municipal vice-chairman Bui Xuan Cuong allowed Greenlines DP Technology Co. Ltd. to continue exploiting the inland waterway port for high-speed boat services connecting the city with Vung Tau City in neighboring Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province, restaurant vessels, and boats transporting tourists from the Bach Dang Wharf.
The inland waterway port will be used when the city has yet to deploy a detailed plan for the wharf.
Cuong asked the Department of Transport to ensure that the port could be closed when needed.
When the city orders Greenlines DP Technology Co. Ltd. to relocate, the company will bear all associated costs.
The firm will also have to submit land use fees in line with the law.
The municipal government assigned the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to coordinate with relevant departments and agencies to instruct companies using quay No. 2, 3, and 4 at the wharf to fulfill their financial obligations.
The department will have to report the results of their work to the municipal People’s Committee next month.
The second quay at the Bach Dang Wharf is 80 meters long and nine meters wide.
The resumption of the quay’s operation will ensure the continuous provision of express boat services between Ho Chi Minh City and Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province, pending the arrangement of a new waterway port.
Greenlines DP Technology Co. Ltd. has managed and operated the quay since 2019.
In April this year, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport extended the operation of express boat services at the inland waterway port of the Bach Dang Wharf until December 30 this year.
In January-October this year, there were 1,500 boat trips departing from and going to the port, carrying 85,000 passengers.
