The Hanoi Department of Transport has proposed piloting the use of electric buses on nine bus routes after their bidding packages for route operation expire this year.
The municipal department has sent this proposal to the Hanoi People’s Committee, asking for the one-year trial operation of e-bus services on the nine routes.
The nine routes, whose bidding packages are set to expire on March 31, include numbers 05, 15, 17, 36, 39, 43, 54, 47A, and 59.
In particular, route No. 05 links the Linh Dam urban area and Phu Dien Ward in Bac Tu Liem District, while route No. 15 connects Gia Lam Coach Station with the Pho Ni residential area.
Bus No. 17 ply the route between Long Bien District and Noi Bai International Airport in Soc Son District.
Route No. 36 stretches from Yen Phu Ward in Tay Ho District to the Linh Dam urban area, while buses on route No. 39 transport passengers from Nghia Do Park to Tu Hiep Commune under Thanh Tri District.
Route No. 43 links Thong Nhat Park and Dong Anh Town, while route No. 54 connects Long Bien District with the capital city’s neighbor, Bac Ninh Province.
Route No. 47A spans from the National Economics University to Kieu Ky Commune in Gia Lam District.
Finally, route No. 59 connects Dong Anh Town with the Vietnam National University of Agriculture.
According to the municipal department, after all procedures related to the pilot program are completed, it will select consultants to help set suitable prices and costs for e-bus services on these routes.
The department will put the routes up for bidding after the pilot period ends.
In Hanoi, some 68 petrol-powered bus routes will see their bids expire by 2025.
Subsequently, e-buses will be used on these routes.
