A man was fined VND3.5 million (US$143) for driving a truck and dumping garbage in Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City last week.
The People’s Committee of Vinh Loc B Commune in Binh Chanh summoned the driver and imposed an administrative fine on him for his illegal dumping, which led to environmental pollution, an official said on Monday evening.
While checking surveillance cameras, local authorities discovered the truck driver dumping waste on Tran Hai Phung Street, so they reported the case to the Vinh Loc B administration.
The chairman of the commune quickly asked police officers to identify the man and vehicle.
The driver, identified as L.V.N.E., a native of An Giang Province, over 180 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City, confessed that he drove his truck to the street and saw an empty location, so he dumped the garbage there on Thursday last week.
The environmental workers in the commune, along with E., gathered and collected the waste discharged on the street for proper treatment.
The garbage weighed 320 kilograms.
